Will I be completely undressed? That is completely up to you. Most people undress completely or leave their underpants on, but no matter what you will remain modestly draped at all times. However massage can be done over clothes or sheets if you are not comfortable with that level of undress.
Are there different types of Massage? Yes, there are many different types or modalities of massage and we proudly offer a diverse selection. While a massage can be performed in only one modality most of the time our therapists use a mix of different techniques to customize our massages for you. Massage techniques can range from a light Swedish massage to a deep tissue therapeutic massage.
No Pain, No Gain Right? Wrong! Massage doesn’t have to, and should not hurt to be effective. If the pressure is too deep your muscles will involuntarily tense to guard from the pain. This is counterproductive. If the pressure your therapist is using is too deep, please let your therapist know. Feedback is always appreciated.
What parts of my body will be massaged? A typical full-body session will include work on your head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet, back and glutes. Not all massages need to be full body, you can tell your therapist what areas you do or do not want massage performed on.
Where will the massage take place? Your massage session will take place in one of our eight warm, comfortable, quiet massage rooms. This is where you will privately discuss your massage goals with your therapist. They will then exit, giving you time to undress and lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
Are there any medical conditions that would prohibit me from receiving a massage? Not every modality is appropriate for every client. There are a few conditions that massage is absolutely not advised while many others may just require a doctor’s release or a modified massage. Some conditions where massage is not advisable include communicable or infectious diseases, blood clots, fever and intoxication. Some conditions that may require a doctor’s release or modification include recent injuries, circulatory problems and cancer. Make sure to disclose all medical conditions so your therapist can best assist you.
What kind of training will my Therapist have? All Massage Therapists are required to be licensed by the state. In order to do so they must meet the educational requirements, this is generally a certificate program at a college. Our education includes massage technique, anatomy, physiology, pathology, business and ethics. In order to maintain our license, each therapist is required to complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education biannually. We at the Therapeutic Massage Center believe education and dedication are key to providing high quality service.
Am I supposed to tip my Massage Therapist? Gratuity is always appreciated but never required. Most people tip 10-20%. However, if you are unable to show your gratitude monetarily you can do it by referring a friend or giving a nice yelp review.
